Durka, Durka, Durka!!!
On Friday March 12th 2010 the Durkas took one of their strongest squads on tour to the wonderful city of Valencia.
Phil Welch, Riaan van Schalkwyk, Alex Welch, Beaver Owen, Ben Jones, Faiz Azman, Fauzi Azman, Bianca Zietsman, Rachel Stevens, Rae Viles, Beth Taylor, Rhiannon Thomas, Phillipa Tuttiett. And our Hydration Specialist Dave Brown.

Friday
Flying out of Bristol (in our Durka touring shirts) we arrived in good time to check into our reasonably priced accommodation and after a few phone calls and random advice from the Bareback Riders touch team, we made the evening reception / welcome presentation held at the Sherlock Holmes Pub. Here we were presented with a back pack full of useful info on Valencia, some bangers (explain later), official tournament tees and importantly our beer vouchers for use at the Sherlock.
We had a bowl of pasta for dinner at a local restaurant and were bombarded by a "looky looky" man who eventually hassled Phil into buying a loud hailer (which was actually very good). Later in the evening Beaver successfully negotiated with a further "looky" to buy tour headwear.
Saturday
Alex got up ridiculously early to attend the captain / referee briefing as was joined by the rest of the squad all wearing their newly acquired tour headwear. The games got underway, see results page for match details.
The days play was forgotten and we all proceeded to the restaurant where we had a good meal of paella or lamb with a few beers and or glasses of wine. During the meal we were challenged by the English and French to sing the national anthem, never ones to shirk from a challenge we arose from our seats to give a rousing performance. Then it was off to the Sherlock Holmes to use our vouchers and Kangaroo Court. A selection of fines awarded on the night:
MVP Award - Fauzi
No Try Award - Ben
Touch Slapper Award - S-Club & Beth
Sunday
After getting up relatively late the Durkas went to the beach for an impromptu game of Ultimate, and soaked up the sights of Valencia. We then sampled the nightlife in Valencia and picked up some flashing sunglasses on the way, as well as a Durka karaoke display of ''Dont stop Believing'' - the official Durka tour song.
Monday
We went to the main square to listen to the loudest fireworks that any of us had ever heard. After some Paella, it was time to pack our bags and say goodbye to a amazing city and awesome tour.
Many thanks to Stephen, and the Valencia Touch organising committee, for a great tournament, and we will be Back next year.
Durka, Durka, Durka!!!
