World Cup Goes To Edinburgh, 2011

The Scottish Touch Association (STA) were delighted to announce that Scotland had won the bid to host the next Touch World Cup in Edinburgh in 2011. The STA presented their tender to the Federation of International Touch (FIT) at the recent World Cup in Stellenbosch, South Africa, and overcame strong competition from an excellent bid by New Zealand. Bringing the World Cup to Edinburgh will be a springboard for the further development of Touch in Scotland, and the northern hemisphere as a whole, attracting some of the worlds best athletes. It is estimated that more than 20 countries and over 1,000 players, managers, coaches and referees from around the world will be represented at the event. Following on from the successful hosting of the 2006 Maclay Murray & Spens European Touch Championships, the World Cup will be held in the summer of 2011 at Goldenacre, home of Heriot’s RFC.
