Durkatouch were formally known as the renegades, the name Durkatouchwas established back in 2005, as of 2008 Durkatouch have become an official association, with comittee numbers being voted in in earlier this year. It has been our vision to promote the growth of touch and ensure that we sustain an ethos of playing not only at a social level but to make sure that we can compete at the same time, by insuring that we train as often as we can and using various Touch Rugby techniques. Training is imperative to insuring success on the touch rugby field. The Durkas Aims for 2008 are as follows

  • To enter as many tournaments as possible, ensuring all players are exposed to a high level of competition.
  • To sustain the Durka attitude of play
  • To Win the Cardiff league in all  Categories
  • To expose as many Durka's as possible to international competion
  • To continue in promoting and spreading the word of touch.

Durkatouch believe that for the future of touch, it is imperative that the knowledge of touch is available to as many people as possible, this should increase the awareness and quality of touch within Wales, this is why this site has been crreated, It's not just for the Durka but it's also for the public so please feel free to use this website for your advantage to assist in either Touch Rugby coaching or just for update in the Touch Rugby news Page.

WHAT IS TOUCH?

The name touch rugby (or touch Football if you're from Australia), refers to derivatives of rugby football in which players do not tackle in the traditional, highly physical way, but instead touch their opponents using either hand on any part of the body, clothing, or the ball.

The most renound, codified form of touch rugby is derived from rugby league and played under the auspices of the Federation of International Touch (FIT). Officially known as Touch , six down in South Africa and touch football in Australia. There is also a version known as one touch in South Africa which features a change of possession after a single touch rather than the eponymous six in the league-derived game, This has now hit London and I believe a league is starting this year.

Touch rugby games are often played towards the end of a rugby union training session or on the day before an important rugby game, to minimize the chances of an accidental injury and Schools have also used touch rugby as part of their curriculum to avoid the injuries that would inevitably stem from playing the full-contact game.

However the game has expanded hugely over the last few years and has now developed into a highly competitive sport. There is a hugh base of players in the southern hemisphere and it said that touch is accredited to New Zealands hugh success in Rugby Union (as they have all played at some level), in fact Touch Rugby is officially the most popular sport within the southern hemisphere.

The world cup has only just been held in Stellenbosch South Africa where Australia were crowned World Champions and more recently the European championships were held in Massy Paris where England were crowned champions.

The game is now expanding in Europe rapidly and luckily 2011 will see the World cup being held in Scotland after their successful hosting of the European championships in 2006.

 ADVANTAGES

Touch rugby has a number of advantages over the traditional games, including the ease of learning and the ability to play it without fear of injury. As a result it is a popular social game; mixed-gender and women-only games are also very popular. Touch rugby is a fantastic socialising tool whether you're a player or refferee, the social circle you can create is endless meting people from all over the world.

You can easily get involved if you don't have the rugby skills by becoming a refferee and if you know your touch rugby rules well, you can gain respect within the touch community.

Touch rugby helps to develop essential skills and fitness for use both in rugby and other sports. Touch rugby also has less required equipment. Since kicking is not part of the game, posts are not required and the game can be played with minimal facilities (a ball and a rectangular playing area). Social games in South Africa (predominantly the single-touch version) are usually played barefoot. Beach touch is also popular.
